Marble Tiles FAQs
How durable are marble tiles?
With proper care and maintenance, marble tiles can last for decades. Marble is a lot softer than other stones such as granite, so it can be more susceptible to scratches and etching. Regular sealing and prompt cleaning help maintain its appearance.
How often does marble need sealing?
Due to its porous nature, marble should be sealed on installation. It should also be resealed every 6 to 12 months to protect it against staining and moisture absorption.
How much do marble tiles cost per m²?
Our marble tiles range from £41.99 per m² to £696.00 per m². Price is driven by the rarity of the quarry, the tile format, and the finish, with large-format and bookmatched stone at the upper end.
Can marble tiles be used with underfloor heating?
Yes. Marble conducts heat well and works efficiently with underfloor heating. The system should be brought up to temperature gradually over 7 to 14 days after installation to avoid thermal shock and cracking.
Is marble suitable for kitchen worktops?
Marble can be used for kitchen worktops, but it needs diligent maintenance. That includes regular sealing and immediate cleaning of spills, especially acidic substances such as lemon juice or vinegar and staining substances such as curry or red wine.
Can marble tiles be used in bathrooms?
Yes. Marble tiles work well on bathroom floors, walls and countertops. Ensure proper sealing and use non-acidic, pH-neutral cleaners to protect the stone.
How do I clean marble tiles?
Clean marble tiles with a soft mop or damp cloth and a cleaner designed for natural stone. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the surface. Regular dusting and mopping helps prevent damage.
Does marble come in different finishes?
Choosing the right marble finish depends on the look you want and what the practical needs of the space are.
- Polished finish: Smooth and glossy, a polished finish enhances the natural veining and gives a luxury, mirror-like look. It’s great for walls, countertops or low-traffic floor areas.
- Honed finish: Matte and smooth with little to no shine. Honed marble tiles are more slip-resistant, and they hide scratches better than polished ones, so they’re a good choice for flooring and bathrooms.
- Tumbled/brushed: These tiles have a more textured, rough finish, and they offer better grip, so they’re often used in outdoor areas or wet spaces like shower enclosures.
Think about how the space will be used, how much traffic it will get, and how much maintenance you’re happy to do. We can give you samples to take home, so you can see the different finishes under your home’s lighting. This might help you make a decision.
